"The Faces of Nearly 3,000 Innocent Souls"

Yesterday, the National September 11 Memorial & Museum opened its doors to the families of those who lost their lives in the 2001 attacks, as well as the first responders and recovery workers that helped save the lives of others that day.

"Here, at this memorial, this museum, we come together," said President Obama. "We look into the faces of nearly 3,000 innocent souls -- men and women and children of every race, every creed, and every corner of the world. ... Here we tell their story, so that generations yet unborn will never forget."

"I Want Us to Be First"

We can't waste any more time when it comes to rebuilding our roads and bridges. Yesterday, at the Tappan Zee Bridge in Tarrytown, New York, the President explained why:

One study recently found that over time, we've fallen to 19th place when it comes to the quality of our infrastructure -- 19th place. I don't know about you, but I don't like America being 19th. I don't like America being second. I want us to be first when it comes to infrastructure around the world, because businesses are going to come where there's good infrastructure to move businesses, move people, move services.

Learn more about the state of our infrastructure -- and what's at stake if we don't fix it.

Find out why we need to rebuild our infrastructure.

America’s Roads and Bridges Are Crumbling

The funding to fix our nation’s roads and bridges is quickly running out -- and it’s up to Congress to act.

65% of America’s major roads are rated in less than good condition, and 25% of our bridges require significant repair or can’t handle today’s traffic. If Congress doesn’t reauthorize transportation funding, more than 112,000 construction projects and nearly 700,000 jobs will be at risk.

Here’s what’s at stake if Republicans in Congress fail to act:

Find out why we need to rebuild our infrastructure.

Why We Need to Invest in Infrastructure

The United States was once a leader in infrastructure, but we're slipping. Repairing our crumbling roads and bridges will help position our economy for long-term growth.

"Every time we've invested in infrastructure, as Democrats, as Republicans -- every time we've done it, the economy grows," said Vice President Biden. "And it grows good, decent-paying jobs."

Listen to the Vice President explain why we need to invest in our infrastructure:

Not your average big-box store:

Last Friday, President Obama visited a Walmart in Mountain View, California, that's making big changes to the way it uses energy.

"A few years ago, you decided to put solar panels on the roof of the store," he explained. "You replaced some traditional light bulbs with LEDs. You made refrigerator cases more efficient. And you even put in a charging station for electric vehicles."

Find out how energy-efficient practices are helping the store save money -- and creating jobs in the process.
